High Mass in Winchester Cathedral on Saturday June 21st.

A Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be celebrated at the High Altar of Winchester Cathedral on Saturday 21st June at 11.00 a.m.

It has been organised by the Guild of Saint Gregory and has the permission of the Bishop of Portsmouth.

Six men from the Cathedral Choir will sing the Ordinary of the Mass, ( as far as I know the Missa Papae Marcelli by Palestrina), and the Proper will be sung by a separate Schola.

The celebrant will be the Benedictine Abbot of Belmont and the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Hemming will act as deacon.

Among other wonders Winchester is the longest medieval church in Europe, and the resting place of the Anglo Saxon Kings of England, ( and Jane Austen, of course).

This casket is situated near the High Altar and contains the remains of King Canute.
